UNBOUND

Welcome to Unbound: Activating the Artist Book, an exhibition co-curated by Katherine Allaye-Chan, Louise Cointepas-Robin, Mike Ma, Allysa Pierre, Aaron Rice, Defne Taslicay, Jesse Ward, Hailey Wispinski and Ella Zheng. In collaboration with Emily Carr University’s Artist Book Collection, this show circulates around selected artist books of each curators choosing. This unique showcase brings together ephemera of art history in conversation with new and emerging artists in the Vancouver art scene. This pairing will activate the archives and open up the individual works through relational dialogue. Explore our haphazard visual library that recoils the narratives of our groups’ selected artist books. This show moves away from the binding, gathering and order that books fall into and is untethered by strict parameters of cohesion. It involves extraction and unthreading of multiple reaches and choices by the curators. Unbound poses the questions of limitation, restraint, collective disharmony, and freedom.
