Events Description
Millennium Chinese Music Workshop, based in Toronto, will be visiting Vancouver on September 29 to co-host a themed concert titled “West Coast Resonance” with the BC Chinese Music Association at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre.
The concert repertoire includes music composed based on Chinese literary works from different eras, such as vocal pieces from the Book of Songs, a harmonica concerto on poet Li Bai (renowned poet in Tang Dynasty) ‘s “Quiet Night Thoughts,” vocal piece “Sentiments” by Zhang Jiuling (reputable chancellor in Tang Dynasty), guzheng and vocal piece “Phoenix Hairpin” by Lu You (renowned poet in Song Dynasty), vocal piece “Farewell” by Master Hong Yi, erhu concerto “Variations on the Theme of Princess Changping,” guzheng concerto “Variations on the Theme of Fisherman’s Song at Dusk,” and “Dragon Boat Racing,” newly composed for the Year of the Dragon. This selection aims to showcase the diversity and charm of Chinese music while embodying the concert’s theme of mutual appreciation and the pursuit of harmony.
