Events Description
A stationary performance in the Ruins of the Trappist Monastery Provincial Heritage Park.
“You know, in the old days, we’d be in a tavern, or a bar, I guess you’d say. It was so much easier to talk about these horrors in a bar…this is the story of the Trojan War…”
This searing, cheeky and moving adaptation of Homer’s epic poem The Iliad brings the ancient story of the Trojan War vividly into our time. A single poet conjures the fury of Achilles, the grief of Priam, the stolen Helen – whose beauty launched a thousand ships. A world where conflict consumes entire nations, and longing becomes lament.
By bringing An Iliad to Canadian audiences now, we invite a national conversation about what it means to be human in a world where conflict is once again becoming a common language. These stories of war are also stories of humanity — and by understanding them, we may yet choose a different path. An Iliad will be a cathartic experience unlike anything that has ever been played at the Ruins.
