Events Description
Come travel thru time with our villages. Come dressed in the costume of the period of Scottish History of your choice. Wear a wee bit of Tartan. Explore your genealogy with the Manitoba Genealogical Society and the Clans. The re-enactment and living history groups are offering to help you with ideas on making your own authentic costume. Workshops will be offered throughout the year, guiding you to source your material, patterns and character you are enacting.
You then can make your costume as authentically as possible surrounded by many mentors. The Hands of Lugh, 600-950 AD Viking living history; Barony of Castel Rouge, Medieval live enactment; Jacobite Period, 1745-47 Outlander; and Manitoba Living History Society, 1812-50; all are offering year round workshops to help you make your costumes. When you go into the villages you are walking into that time period.
The Manitoba Highland Gathering is a non-profit, volunteer (youth-senior) supported, family fun filled, community designated over 50 years old event which strives to preserve, promote, nurture, educate and share about our wonderful, colourful Scottish Culture and Heritage, arts, sports and agriculture.
Come on out and be fascinated by the Highland Dance Competition, admire the strength of our Highland Games athletes, enjoy the Bagpipes and drums bands marching around, visit the petting zoo, go shopping at the Scottish Market, sample original Scottish food, watch the shearing and sheep dog demonstrations, try Scottish dancing and line dancing, listen to Celtic tunes, visit the life enactment groups and time travel to the Vikings, the Jacobites, the Medieval Ages, … and so much more!
