The Neighbour Day Art Walk in Capitol Hill

This annual event allows you to enjoy art from all, for all. Walk the Capitol Hill neighbourhood and watch the residential area transform into a pop-up art gallery! All community members are encouraged to create their own pieces of art to display in their front yards. Capitol Hill begins on 16th Ave and is a short distance from Prince’s Island Park and the Peace Bridge.

Calaway Park

Adventure awaits west of Calgary, and we don’t mean the Rockies. While the mountains provide plenty of outdoor chances for adventure, Calgary’s Calaway Park offers adventure via their thrill rides and midway games. Challenge one another to the scariest rides of all, or spend the day winning each other prizes and indulging in fair food.

Rocky Mountain Daytrip

If you do seek that outdoor-style of adventure, the Rockies are just a 45-minute drive from Calgary’s city limits. You only need to drive as far as Canmore or Kananaskis to have tons of hikes, bike rides, waterfalls, and romantic scenery to enhance your day out together.

Head west on: Highway 22 to explore the Bragg Creek area for the day; Highway 1 to explore Kananaskis for the day; or take Highway 1A for the scenic route to the Rockies.

Paddle the Bow River

Simply rent a raft, check the water levels, and launch onto the water! Calgary’s Paddle Station can take care of all the gear and rentals for you, too, while also providing a paddling route. All you need to do is book your time slot and arrive at their starting point in Shouldice Park. From here, you can paddle the Bow together and enjoy Calgary from a new perspective. The Paddle Station meet you at the endpoint on St. Patrick’s Island where you can drop off your rental items.

Le Cirque de la Nuit

A night circus just for adults? They do exist! Le Cirque de la Nuit at Calgary’s Delta offers a spectacular Beyond Burlesque show which will dazzle you before you take to your hotel room for the night. The show’s main stage attractions are then followed by a DJ spinning to an LED light show.

2021 THIRD ACTion Film Festival

 

Did the love of movies bring the two of you together? And maybe you’re tired of the same old selections offered by your streaming services. Drive-in Flicks

There is no date more classic than a drive-in movie. Watch your flicks on a large screen from the comfort of your car, with all the sound travelling through your car’s speakers. This novel idea was once an incredibly popular, and there use to be drive-in theaters in every city. They are making a resurgence, just in time for your next date night. There are a few places in Calgary where you can get this perfect night out.

Tours with The Alice Sanctuary

Beyond all the adorable animals you’ll get to meet at the Alice Sanctuary, you’ll also get to hear all of their stories of how they came to live on this farm. This important organization is dedicated to rehabilitating and healing neglected farm animals. The guided tours give the animals a safe opportunity for being socialized, pet, and adored (but always on the animals’ terms). The Sanctuary will release tour booking dates on a month-to-month basis for summer 2021.

At the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area, you two can take in a sunny hike or enjoy stargazing and get views of wildlife which can make you feel like you’re a lot further from the city than you are. These hiking trails are only a 30-minute drive from Calgary’s city centre, west on Highway 22x. You’ll need to book your hike in advance, ensuring adequate space for all hikers. Your hike could include a sunrise or sunset as the park is open all day from 4am-11pm.

Explore Heritage Park

Calgary’s history, and much of western Canada’s, is on full display at Heritage Park. The area offers a full day’s worth of date activities and is officially open for the summer season. You can go off on your own on a self-guided walking tour of the grounds, dine at The Selkirk or Railway Cafe, browse the Gasoline Alley Museum, and/or treat each other in the gift shop.

Fire up the Grills at North Glenmore Park

North Glenmore Park is filled with recreational fun, and you can spend an entire day explore the trails, waterways, and parkland. But once that is all said and done, plant yourselves at a picnic bench and pack along some firewood. There are numerous picnic sites with grills in North Glenmore, so you can cook up an entire feast for before or after your fun in the park. Or simply come here and relax in the sun with some good food! Ensure availability by booking your picnic site in advance with the City of Calgary.

Segway Tours of Calgary

The Segway Tours offered by River Valley Adventure Tours are one of the coolest, most unique ways to see Calgary. Your tour takes you and your partner through central Calgary’s East Village, downtown, and other parts of the Bow River Valley. Your gliding date can last 30-, 60-, or 90-minutes.

Shakes & Fries at Peter’s

The classic date: milkshakes, hot dogs, and a picnic from the local drive-in restaurant. Peter’s on 16th Avenue has established itself as the best place for milkshakes in Alberta, so treat yourselves to one of their NUMEROUS shake flavours, dinner, and a picnic in the large grassy area next to the restaurant. The mature neighbourhood of Crescent Heights north of Peter’s is also a gorgeous walking area if you need to walk off a Chocolate Milkshake or Large Fries!
