John Lennon – Imagine and Paul McCartney and Wings – Band on the Run
One of pop music’s ultimate songwriting duos get the CAL treatment separately, as the celebrations of the Beatles’ last Toronto appearance continue into 2017. Both records were early solo ventures for two of rock and roll’s biggest names, but quickly proved – and continue to prove in the more than 40 years since their release – that the Fab Four’s writing core were powerful individual songwriting forces. 2. Dariush
Dariush is considered as one of, if not the greatest Iranian artist in the history of pop, best known for his warm and poignant bass voice heard in both ballads and socio- political songs.
He is also a social activist who has been promoting education, awareness and prevention with regards to social maladies such as human rights violations, substance abuse, AIDS, street children and the plight of refugees among others. Details
3. Toronto Mendelssohn Choir
Enjoy a lively concert of classical and contemporary choral music performed by the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and the Grammy-nominated Elora Singers chamber choir. The two choirs will be conducted by the five conductors who have come from across North America to attend the TMC’s week-long Choral Conductors’ Symposium. The concert will include works by composers from Bach, Mozart and Mendelssohn to a number of contemporary Canadian works, including Leonard Cohen’s iconic Hallelujah. Details

6. Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto 1
Superlative works by Tchaikovsky and Dvorák anchor this hearty program. Pianist Stewart Goodyear, whom the Los Angeles Times has called “a phenomenon who deserves wide attention,” masters every dimension of Tchaikovsky’s commanding concerto. The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra joins the TSO in a performance of Dutch-Canadian composer Edward Top’s sesquicentennial commission. Details
