While this is not the cheapest activity to choose, children will be absolutely thrilled with the up close and personal visit with the raptors. Featuring open spaces for playing, a horseshoe pitch, playground, picnic areas, walking trails and even a water spray park, this park offers everything a family needs for an enjoyable day. THE ROCK WALL

Challenge your kids to some time climbing at this indoor climbing facility. Equipment and instruction is provided, and participants of all abilities are allowed to partake. Drop in to take advance of their on-site belayers or sign your kids up for an indoor or outdoor course. Kids under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult on drop in days. Details

MAPLE RIDGE MUSEUM

To bring some history into your kids lives, take a visit to the Museum and Archives, located just off the Lougheed Highway. Here your family will find displays and exhibits on the First Nations of the area, as well as the history of the settlement of the area and the prominent families that lived here. Details

VOLKER PARK

A true neighbourhood park, Volker offers wide open green spaces for your kids to run and play as they choose. A cute, sand-based playground offers swings and other play equipment for children to enjoy at their leisure. With views of the Golden Ears Mountains in the distance, this park is a great place to take a picnic, a frisbee, some baseball gloves or whatever game takes your child’s attention. Details

GOLDEN EARS PROVINCIAL PARK

Being one of the largest parks in the province, the park offers so much for your family to do that they will not want to leave at the end of the day. Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, fishing and windsurfing are all done on the lake here, and there are plenty of trails for hiking and exploring. A playground and picnic areas are also available. If you like, camp at one of the three campgrounds to extend your stay, your kids will surely agree. Details

LOWER FALLS TRAIL

While we are listing this as a separate activity, this trail is actually located in Golden Ears Park. This is the easiest trail to complete in this area, so we thought it worth a mention for kids, as it is only an hour walk to the falls, and a rocky beach where the family can enjoy a picnic or a rest. Kids will enjoy this hike, no matter what their age. Details

WHONNOCK LAKE

Grab your kids, some beach toys, sports equipment, lawn chairs and a picnic and head out to spend the day at this enjoyable lake. With a small beach area, open spaces, a canoe rental facility, concession, volleyball courts and a playground, kids will thoroughly enjoy every moment here. The rumour is that there are the largest tadpoles here, so kids may want to explore the waters of the lake. Details

MALCOLM KNAPP RESEARCH FOREST

 
This research forest area is dedicated to forestry research with more than 800 projects completed here since the area was designated. Trails can be found in the public area, so this is a fantastic place for families to enjoy the forest, the wildlife and the lovely scenery. Breathe in the fresh air while your kids burn off some energy hiking the trails. Details

LAITY PUMPKIN PATCH

Open for the month of October, this farm offers two unique areas for kids either aged baby to 6, or 6 years and above. Get your kids to pick the perfect pumpkin, or let them enjoy the other farm activities, like the obstacle course, farm animals, corn maze, family games area and tractor rides.
