Corner Brook is a beautiful city that turns into a spectacular winter wonderland when it is covered in a thick blanket of sparkling snow. Corner Brook gets around 5 metres of snow each year, so there is a lot of winter fun to be had. Don’t let the winter blues get you down this year, dress warmly and head outside this winter to have a good time with family and friends.

Home to the Corner Brook Winter Carnival (February 17 to 26, 2023) Margaret Bowater Park transforms into a winter wonderland. Bring your sled to zip down the hills around the park. Enjoy the chilly air by taking a walk through the park.

Go Skiing at Marble Mountain

Marble Mountain Ski Resort is known for having some of the best skiing east of the Rockies. The mountain averages 5 metres or 16 feet of snow yearly. Ride the five lifts to the top of the mountain and zip down your choice of the 40 available runs. If you work up an appetite on the slopes, head to the Cookhouse for some grab-and-go food before heading back out onto the mountain.

Marble Zip Tours – Snowmobile & Ziplining

Brave a snowy Steady Brook Gorge and frozen Falls on a zip line. The Marble Mountain resort has nine ziplines that run 285 feet above the valley with Marble Zip Tours.

Mable Zip Tours also offers snowmobile rentals, so you can kick up snow and explore some of the most popular trails in Newfoundland. They also offer single, duo and group tours with one of their experienced guides.

Snowmobiling Trails Next to Humber Valley Resort

Over 1200km of groomed trails await snowmobile riders next to the Humber Valley Resort. The trails will take you through beautiful forests to breathtaking points in Newfoundland that are nearly unreachable the rest of the year.

Blow Me Down Trails

 

Explore the impressive snow belt on the outskirts of Corner Brook. Blow Me Down is home to 42kms of beautifully groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. There is an additional 5km of snowshoeing only specific trails. The club is made up of over 850 members.

Pasadena Skin & Nature Park

Head out of Corner Brook to the beautiful town of Pasadena and spend time exploring the 18kms of trails that are groomed specifically for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The trails will take you into the forest where you can spot local wildlife.

Gros Morne National Park

A ninety-minute drive from Corner Brook is a fabulous winter wonderland. Gros Morne in winter is a different place to explore. Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular activities in the park. You can even stay overnight in the winter at the Backcountry Ski Huts.

Visit Newfoundland’s Highest Points

While the Lewis Hills are not much to look at, they are home the Catbox. The Catbox is the highest point on Newfoundland at 814 metres. The top can be reached on a snowmobile and reward those who reach the peak with impressive views of the Bay St. George area.

Long Range Mountains

Skate on the Humber River

Once the Humber River freezes, it is the place for outdoor ice skating. You can go skating by yourself or invite a few friends to play some hockey. Like other natural ice surfaces, you should always check the conditions before heading out onto the ice.

Sleigh Rides at Cache Rapids Stables

Cozy up under a blanket and enjoy hot chocolate as you go dashing through the snow on old fashion horse-drawn sleigh ride. Sleigh rides are available from 11am to 5pm daily by appointment. Details

Ice Fishing on the Humber River

The fish are always biting at the Humber River. The ice on the river can reach up to 2 feet deep, so be sure to bring the right equipment to cut through the ice. Spend a relaxing day ice fishing, and you may catch trout for your dinner.

Deer Lake

Take a winter walk along Deer Lake

Take a relaxing winter hike along Deer Lake Beach. The 1.9km long trail takes you along the north shore of Deer Lake. Take in the breathtaking views of the snow-covered beach and the icy lake.

Three Bear Mountain

Located in the heart of Corner Brook, this 1km trail offers walkers and hikers great panoramic views of the city and the Bay of Islands. There are stairs to the top of the major elevation gains. Read about the city by stopping at the interpretive signs.

Explore Corner Brook Stream Trail Network

The Corner Brook Stream Trail Network is a unique place to visit during winter because the trails wind through the city and to the upper reaches of the Corner Brook Stream corridor. Take the family there for a fun winter walk or snowshoeing in the pristine snow. You will surely appreciate the striking natural beauty of the wilderness sections near the stream and possibly see some wildlife.

Sir Richard Squires Memorial Provincial Park

Sir Richard Squires Memorial Park, better known locally as Big Falls, was established in 1954 as the first Provincial Park in Newfoundland. Go for a winter hike on either of the two short trails in the park, and you will be rewarded with a picturesque view of Big Falls. Big Falls is a good size falls, it is approximately 3 metres high and 87 metres wide.
