The popular train tours by Alberta Prairie Railway returns this year with a full slate of exciting themed and dinner train rides.
Alberta Prairie Railway will take you on a beautiful tour of Central Alberta. On a passenger train from the 1920s, pulled by either a steam or diesel engine, you will be travelling from Stettler to the Village of Big Valley or Warden Junction.
During the train ride, you will experience a railway robbery, just like it used to be in old times.
The staged robbery will see the outlaws – The Reynolds Raiders and The Pump Car Bandits – “rob” you of your “valuables.” You will then get to watch an entertaining gun battle unfold. Once the bandits have been defeated and your money reclaimed, they will be donated to numerous children’s charities. Over the past 33 years, The Alberta Prairie Railway has donated over $100,000 to charity.
Most rides include a full-course cafeteria-style meal, nature walks, on-site live entertainment, and old-time carnival games.
Alberta Prairie Railway also offers themed excursions like Steak Barbecue, Country Dinners, the extremely popular Polar Express, fall tours, harvest-themed trips and adults-only specials. You can host family events here too.
If you are visiting Stettler for the train tour, plan a weekend in the town, as Stettler offers a ton of family-friendly activities which let you explore its history, culture, food, and natural areas.
