Come October, many famous pioneer villages around Ontario feature hand-carved all lit up at night creating a magical atmosphere for visitors.
The unique event called Pumpinferno debuted in Upper Canada Village 11 years ago. It then expanded to various locations, some in collaboration with St. Lawrence Parks and some by private entities.
St. Lawrence Parks Commission debuted Pumpkinferno in Kingston in 2021.
This year, both events by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission are back, offering visitors plenty of autumn-themed fun to welcome the new season. The Kingston location will see a change, with the glowing event debuting at Ontario’s historic jail, Kingston Penitentiary, instead of Fort Henry. Fort Henry will see the return of the scary “Fort Fright” Halloween Haunt.
Head to the Kingston Penitentiary check out this unique and fun festival. As soon as the sun goes down, you’ll be able to explore the limestone walls where you’ll find fully lit pumpkin sculptures. There will also be an interactive fun zone that’s sure to be a hit if you’re bringing the kids with you.
In 2023, Pumpkinferno in Upper Canada Village is entering its 12th year.
The event near Ottawa will feature brilliant pumpkin sculpture exhibits including brand new exhibits installed along a 1 km route in the pioneer village. The experience is approximately 40 minutes.
Dining options are abundant at Upper Canada Village during the event, providing a delightful culinary experience to accompany your outing. Willard’s Hotel and Harvest Barn are open for service, both offering reservations beginning at 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm respectively, with a 7:00 pm entry ticket to Pumpkinferno. Additionally, Willard’s Hotel presents a special Thanksgiving dinner from October 7-9. To reserve your spot at either of the venues, reach out at 613-330-9266. If you are craving BeaverTails, the shop will be open too.
