Events Description
Recognized as “one of the leading jazz musicians in Europe today” (Jazzthetik, Jazz Magazine), pianist Anke Helfrich’s style is characterized by sound sensuality and swinging virtuosity. Nominated for the 2024 German Jazz Prize and the 2024 German Jazz Critics Award, her newest album, “We’ll Rise,” has been hailed for “soaringly beautiful … finely crafted pieces,” (BR2 – Radio), “sophisticated, technically masterful improvisations” (Jazzpodium), and the transformation of “cutting-edge ideas into rousing music” (NDR – Radio)! Inspired by women pioneers in art, science and sport who have courageously defied convention, Helfrich’s “dazzling” tribute album creates intimate portraits through fine declamation, the earthy-spiritual tones of the didgeridoo, and the “moving and gripping music of her outstanding trio” (SWR2 – Radio)
We are delighted to present this trio prior to their concert at the Ottawa Jazz Festival on Friday!
