Summer Open Days at the DSC

Come and visit the donkeys and mules at the Sanctuary. You will learn how we care for the animals, discover the donkeys’ personalities, and the dynamics of the different groupings, and get all your questions about donkeys answered by our incredible staff and volunteers.

Every year, on most Sundays from the first Sunday in May to the last Sunday in October, the Donkey Sanctuary of Canada is open to the public. Visitors of all ages come from all over the world to visit with the donkeys and mules and we look forward to seeing you, as well.

Are you looking for a meaningful way to celebrate Mom this Mother’s Day?

At the DSC, there are so many ways to make her day extra special.

You can make a donation online in her honour Choose “Make a Gift in Celebration” and select “Mother’s Day” as the occasion and we’ll send a card on your behalf, either by mail or as an e-card, to Mom or to you.

You can also let her choose a donkey to sponsor.

or surprise her with a gift admission to enjoy a peaceful visit at the Sanctuary on her choice of Open Day

And if you’re planning to join us on Mother’s Day, all moms will receive 25% off boutique purchases made in person that day, so she can pick out something she loves after spending time with the donkeys.

However you choose to celebrate, it’s a beautiful way to honour Mom while supporting the donkeys and mules at the DSC!

Special Open Days for Seniors
Seniors’ Days at The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada are a cherished event designed to offer older adults a tranquil and enriching experience amidst the gentle company of rescued donkeys and mules. New for 2026 – we have added more Seniors’ Days!

Seniors’ Day Highlights

• Meet the Donkeys: Visitors can leisurely explore the sanctuary’s scenic grounds, with over 100 resident donkeys and mules. Knowledgeable volunteers are available to share insights into the animals’ stories and care.
• Relaxation and Connection: The serene environment offers a perfect setting for relaxation and reflection.

Holiday Open Days
Save the date! Holiday open days for 2026 will be November 29, December 6 and December 13. Join us during the holiday season for a heartwarming experience at the DSC! Our Holiday Open Days are the perfect opportunity to celebrate the spirit of giving and connect with our beloved donkeys.

Spend a festive day with family and friends as you meet our donkeys, and take in the peaceful surroundings of the sanctuary. Explore the grounds, visit our gift shop for unique holiday gifts, and learn more about the work we do to provide a safe haven for donkeys in need.

* Please be aware (especially if your vehicle does not have winter tires) that the DSC is a working farm and the laneway may be snow-covered or icy in winter.

** Although most areas are accessible for wheelchairs, some areas of the barnyard have rough or uneven terrain and may be snow-covered in winter.

Please note that Concession 4, Maltby Rd. and County Rd. 34 are all closed at Hwy. 6 due to recent road changes. The new interchange is now open, but we understand that it might be confusing for first-time visitors. To make your journey easier, here’s the best route:

If you’re using Hwy 6, exit at the new interchange and head west.
Continue down to County Rd 34 and head west.
Turn right onto 20 Side Rd to reach Concession 4 and turn left on Concession 4 to reach the DSC.
