Toronto
Events Description
A Glorious Intersection” an eclectic program at the crossroads of old and new. Maestro Arman and the orchestra will open the concert with anniversary tributes written for the occasion by popular Toronto composer Frank Horvat and musical best wishes by French composer Louis Sauter.
The virtuoso violinist Elisso Gogibedaschwili, now in her early 20’s, has been a favourite with audiences here since her first performance with Sinfonia Toronto at just 14; her career now takes her to major halls all over Europe. She is returning to play a brilliant Georgian-folkmusic-themed concerto, Otar Taktakishvili’s Violin Concerto, and one of the best-loved violin pieces of all time, Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, “Gypsy Airs.”
The concert will finish with the Canadian premiere of a powerful string orchestra arrangement of what many people consider the greatest symphony of all time, Beethoven’s Fifth.
