Events Description
Komorebi, one of the leading alt-pop/electronic acts from India’s underground scene is returning to Canada after 20 years joined by Toronto-based producer and singer-songwriter, Static River.
TO Live’s Studio Sessions continues with Komorebi & Static River, an event that is more than a concert—it’s a celebration of boundary-breaking South Asian creativity.
Bridging underground electronic scenes, South Asian influences, and experimental pop Komorebi (Tarana Marwah) is an Indian composer, producer, and singer whose electronic-alternative sound fuses hypnotic vocal harmonies, euphoric ambience, and futuristic production with orchestral and whimsical textures. Drawing inspiration from Japanese anime soundtracks, chiptune music, and visionary artists like Björk and Radiohead, she crafts a sonic world that feels both intimate and cinematic.
Komorebi first emerged in 2015 with her debut EP, followed by her breakthrough album Soliloquy (2017), which garnered critical acclaim and featured collaborations with celebrated musicians Mohini Dey and Warren Mendonsa. Her innovative approach has earned her international recognition, including an MTV Europe Music Award nomination for best Indian act, a VH1 Sound Nation Award nomination, and a spotlight as both Spotify’s 2023 RADAR Artist and an Apple UP NEXT Artist.
Sharing the stage, Static River is the artist moniker of Toronto-based producer and singer-songwriter Tanya Sharma, a rising voice in Canada’s independent music scene. Her sound is a fluid meeting point between cultures and genres, weaving soulful Urdu poetics with contemporary electronic production and global underground influences.
The result is music that feels at once deeply personal and universal—an exploration of identity, belonging, and the liminal spaces between tradition and futurism.
Presented by TO Live in partnership with the Tawoos Initiative and the City of Toronto.
