Events Description

Start a new tradition of exploring cozy, charming Fort Langley National Historic Site during the holidays.

The Fort Langley Chief Trader was responsible for driving trade and managing workers. Each day, the Chief Trader or a worker wrote in the Fort Langley Journals, an archival document used today for research. The journal entries included the weather, work that was accomplished (or not completed!) and issues that arose in the day. HBC workers had very little rest and this event is inspired by their desire to rest, recuperate and celebrate the season.

Humbug Holiday Journal:

The days are getting darker, and the weather is bitingly cold. Fort Langley usually livens up with festive cheer at this time of year, but it remains dark and glum. The new Chief Trader is set in their ways and demands that Fort Langley focus on the task at hand as “there is never a time to be festive when much work is at hand!”.

We need your help to bring a dose of holiday cheer to Fort Langley! Between December 16 – 30 come out to Fort Langley NHS to make your own ornaments; one to take home and one to help the Fort workers secretly decorate for the holidays. But be careful… the grumpy Chief Trader is wandering around the fort making sure that everyone is working hard; they might just put you to work if you get caught doing any decorating!
