Events Description

The FRDC is delighted to offer extra programming during long weekends with Summer Discovery Days! There’s so much to see and discover on these long summer days, and we hope you’ll join us!

Wildfire has become an increasingly important issue across the Fraser Basin, affecting communities, forests, wildlife, and water systems. While fire can contribute to natural ecosystem processes, hotter and drier conditions are increasing the frequency and intensity of wildfires. Join us to explore how fire changes landscapes, impacts rivers and habitats, and the ways people work to reduce risks and support ecosystem recovery.

WHAT:
• Discover the mystery of hot roots and explore how plants and underground ecosystems respond to fire.
• Learn how wildfire affect watersheds, erosion, and river systems using a stream table.
• Learn how to rebuild a healthy forest and river ecosystem after wildfire.
• Discover tools and practices used to manage wildfire risks.

Caretakers are asked to remain with their children for the duration of their visit.
