Events Description
Learn to grow mushrooms and harvest Manitoba maple syrup.
Learn how to ‘plant’ mushroom spawn and grow your own shiitake mushrooms on oak logs with Ken Fosty. A hands-on demonstration will show how to inoculate logs with mushroom spawn.
You’ll also learn how to make your own syrup from local Manitoba maple and birch trees. Topics covered include tree identification and selection, tapping trees, boiling off sap, bottling, and storing syrup. Mushroom grow kits and tree taps will be available for sale following the hands-on presentation.
Who is it for?
Recommended for adults and children aged 10 and up.
This program takes place indoors at the Richardson Interpretive Centre.
