04.11 Cara Luft Album Release*// Folk, Singer-Songwriter

Folk, Singer-songwriter.

For fans of The Wailin’ Jennys and The Small Glories, plus Gillian Welch, Sarah Harmer, Neko Case, Brandi Carlile, Lucinda Williams, Patty Griffin, Linda Thompson

One of Canada’s most acclaimed and much-loved singer-songwriters Cara Luft makes a long-anticipated return with a joyful solo album – her first in over 13 years. The culmination of a period of upheaval and transformation, the album is Cara’s most assured and personal work to date. Cara’s guiding principle was simple: to work with friends who embodied kindness, consideration and be generous of spirit. From this ethos emerged the foundations of her new album and a trusted creative entourage she affectionately calls “the quadrangle of awesomeness”: musician/singer/songwriter Clayton Parsons (Creanbrook, BC), session musician/producer Soctt Poley (Liverpool, UK) and engineer Julia Graff (Vancouver, BC). Recorded over 12 days in Vancouver, Cara, Scott and Clayton sang and played nearly everything themselves – guitars, banjos, electric bass and pedal steel – making it an intimate and cathartic experience. It showcases Cara’s remarkable musicianship and uncanny ability to sing about personal things that resonate deeply with the listener without descending into navel- gazing. “I want to create and offer a reflection of the human experience,” she explains. The result, My Heart Will Always Be, is a tour de force. The album is both a personal declaration and a celebration of music’s enduring power to heal, connect and bring joy.

04.17 Don Amero & Guests* // Singer-Songwriter, pop

Don Amero is a captivating singer whose soulful sound and heartfelt storytelling have made him one of Canada’s most beloved performers. A multiple JUNO and CCM Award nominee, Don has spent nearly the past two decades touring and speaking across the country, earning admiration for both his music and his message.

Of Cree and Métis heritage, Don brings authenticity and purpose to everything he does — from his powerful performances to his ongoing advocacy for Indigenous communities. Whether on stage or off, he leads with heart, hope, and a deep desire to uplift others.

Antonio Larosa is a country-rock and roots artist whose music blends the grit of blues, the soul of vintage rock, and the storytelling of classic country. With a voice that channels the spirit of Elvis Presley and the emotional weight of Chris Stapleton, Larosa creates songs that are heartfelt, lived-in, and unapologetically honest. Raised in Vancouver, BC, Larosa was drawn to the music of Johnny Cash, The Allman Brothers, BB King, and Roy Orbison from a young age. His music reflects those roots: raw, rhythmic, and filled with sincerity, but filtered through his own lens and life experiences.

SADAA founder Izzeddin on the meaning of the name: In the Arabic language, Sadaa means echo. My goal with Sadaa is to create the mountain top from which voices and stories are allowed to echo. To be the catalyst for marginalized narratives to be carried into the world.

04.29 Rae Spoon Album Release* // Singer-Songwriter, Country

Assigned Country Singer At Birth is Rae Spoon’s thirteenth solo album and marks their return to country music. It’s arguably not any safer than it was in the early 2000’s to be a transgender country singer, but there’s no room for doubting their connection to it when you hear them sing.

The album is equally subversive and relatable, a testament to the fact that country music is as expansive as the people who are connected to it. Songs about trans folks, harm reduction, disability, inclusion, religious trauma, solidarity and opposing colonial land occupation may seem antithetical to traditional country, but they are as much a part of Spoon’s experiences as love songs, trucks and beer.

On Assigned Country Singer At Birth, Rae Spoon’s musical influences from traditional country, to pop, gospel, bluegrass, electronic and experimental coalesce into unique combinations. Producer and drummer, Alaska B of Yamantaka Sonic Titan, Pantayo (both short-listed for the Polaris Prize twice) and collaborators Robyn Grey, Evelyn Charlotte Joe, Laurie Torres, Thanya Iyer, Christine Bougie and Gambletron deliver nuanced performances that gel seamlessly with Rae’s humour and heartbreak. Vocalists Lydia Persaud, Kimmortal, Cassia Hardy, Theodore Walker, Louis Sanchez, Rosina Kazi, Kue Varo, Lianne Hall and Stewart Legere form a chorus of vocal support that illustrate the visceral power of people coming together to sing for change.

Local artists Keri Latimer and Tofu Smell will open the show.

05.08 The Bonaduces & Greg Rekus* // Rock, Punk

The Bonaduces are a Winnipeg punk band that have been in existence since 1994 at various levels of function. They toured and recorded extensively in the 90s and have released exactly one song in the 26 years since, but are currently at work on their long long long long long awaited third (or fourth, depending on how you feel about cassettes) full-length album.

Greg Rekus’s passion for music is bursting at the seams. It is the driving force that keeps him constantly on the road and cranking out album after album of folk punk goodness. During live performances, audiences are treated to an entertainer who treats the stage as his home. With high energy and infectious enthusiasm, Rekus has a natural ability to engage with a diverse assortment of crowds from around the world. His lyrics speak to common experiences, such as drinking in a favourite hometown bar, or the simultaneous joy and heartache of falling in love, but also do not shy away from making pointed political commentary, coloured with the anger and frustration that comes along with it. Delivering each line with a force that is rivalled by few other solo artists, Rekus emphasizes his words with every strum of his guitar, pounding the beat out on his custom-built stomp box. His hard work has already gotten him to places he never thought attainable, and as far as he’s concerned, the only way from here is up.

Mise en Scene is the grunge pop/garage rock band from the small Canadian prairie town of Gimli, Manitoba. Founded by BFF art school dropouts Stef and Jodi, the band is known for their whirlwind of rock-rooted, reverb-drenched dream pop that perfectly meshes modern vibes with vintage charm. Mise en Scene has turned heads on the stages of major international festivals like SXSW, Reeperbahn, The Great Escape, and Spain’s Primavera Sound. Daydreaming decadence and jam-packed dancefloors, they bring a raucous symphony of rolling thunder drums and Rickenbacker riffage with a bark that matches its bite.
