With the province taking more measures to tackle the spread to novel coronavirus, many attractions in Winnipeg has already closed temporarily. The Manitoba Legislative Assembly has closed their public galleries and postponed tours of the Legislative Building until further notice.
Following suit the Manitoba Children’s Museum will also be closing their doors to the public temporarily, from Monday, March 16. “We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution for the well-being of our visitors, staff, volunteers, and the community. We understand this will have a significant impact on the communities we serve, however we consider it our social responsibility to support the recommendations to practice social distancing as a means of trying to flatten the curve of impact on our public health services,” says Sara Hancheruk, Executive Director of the Children’s Museum. “We will continue to look to federal, provincial, and local health authorities to determine the length of this closure.”
The museum has suspended all the special events and bookings.
Among the few attractions that remains open in Winnipeg is the Assiniboine Park and Zoo. Since the area is an outdoor space that allows social distancing, and has an important part in promoting a healthy life, the authorities have decided to keep the attraction open.
“That said, we are working to do our part to protect the health and welfare of our community and the wildlife in our care.
We have assembled an internal COVID-19 response team to monitor the situation and take action based on updates provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada and Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living. The response team will assess the situation daily and coordinate the execution of any contingency plans that may be required.” reads the statement in their website.
