As part of Hot Docs 2024, Chiledoc is proud to present three phenomenal Chilean films, the World Premiere of Synchrony | Sincronía, the World Premiere of The Fabulous Gold Harvesting Machine | La Fabulosa Máquina De Cosechar Oro, and the North American Premiere of The Broken Goddess | La Diosa Quebrada. In addition, seven documentary projects will be part of the 2024 Chilean catalog, along with a delegation composed of seven Chilean documentary filmmakers. The films will be screened as part of Hot Docs 2024.
The World Premiere of Synchrony | Sincronía, directed by Caro Bloj – A sensory immersion into the life journey of two women and their relationship of pleasure and pain with the sea. An islander dives into the ocean and swims alongside sea lions, embracing her freedom. A swimmer plunges into the icy waters of glaciers and polar currents, pushing the limits of her endurance. Both inhabit a watery universe whose nature can be as beautiful as it is brutal.
Screening Thursday, May 2 at 7:30 pm EST, and Saturday, May 4 at 3 pm EST.
The World Premiere of The Fabulous Gold Harvesting Machine | La Fabulosa Máquina De Cosechar Oro, directed by Alfredo Pourailly De La Plaza —Toto has been prospecting for gold in Tierra del Fuego for 40 years. His work routine severely damages his body, and the doctor tells him that he cannot continue working in the mine or he will die. But he can’t stop because he has no right to social security. His cowboy son Jorge designs a machine to bring them a better future.

The North American Premiere of The Broken Goddess | La Diosa Quebrada, directed by Ximena Pereira – The myth of María Lionza, the goddess of Venezuela, merges with the experience of a migrant filmmaker who yearns for her lost Goddess. Over two decades of filming, the movie unveils the facets of the fracture of the iconic Goddess statue amidst a Caracas marked by acute political and social division. Different times come together to explore a rupture that is not just that of a statue. It is the story of Venezuela and of every Venezuelan who feels torn by a war that never belonged to them. It is also the wound of those living in the nowhere of a migrant life.
