Events Description
February 2 is Groundhog Day and this is the day where Manitobans find out when spring will finally arrive.
Manitoba Merv, the weather forecasting puppet groundhog, will come out at sunrise, and predict if we will get an early spring or six more weeks of winter in Manitoba.
But as much as we believe in the abilities of a plush rodent to predict the arrival of spring. the best way to find out if we have an early spring is by looking for the arrival of the first Canada Geese. Recording the spring arrival of the first Canada Goose seen at Oak Hammock Marsh is an annual tradition.
February 2 is also World Wetlands Day. Celebrate this very important day for Oak Hammock Marsh either by visiting and enjoying all the beauty and leisure opportunities offered by the Marsh or by supporting us and becoming a member.
To help celebrate World Wetlands Day, take a guided journey to explore the diverse and hidden world of wetlands. The theme for 2024 is “Wetlands and Human Well-being”. Join us and learn about wetlands and their importance during our virtual program.
