Free Fishing and Admission to Manitoba Provincial Parks This Weekend

Manitoba Provincial Parks are free to visit this weekend from June 10 to 12, 2022.

Environment, Climate and Parks Minister Jeff Wharton made the announcement today.

“Spanning more than four million hectares of land and water, Manitoba’s provincial parks have something for everyone,” said Wharton. “Whatever adventure piques your interest – whether it’s hiking, going for a picnic, mountain biking, using an accessible trail, canoeing or beyond – you are sure to find what you’re looking for in one of our incredible provincial parks.”

Though provincial park admission is free, regular fees still apply for provincial campgrounds.

 

Those who want to go fishing this weekend can do so without a licence on June 11th and 12th, except in national parks where a federal licence is still required.

This year, due to the devastating floods, some of the most popular provincial are closed or have restricted access. These include:

  • Birch Point Provincial Park – Full closure
  • Camp Morton Provincial Park – Partial closure of some group use areas until at least June 16.
  • Duck Mountain Provincial Park: PR 367 is closed between PTH 10 and Singush Lake.
  • Duff Roblin Provincial Park: Access from Turnbull Drive/Pembina Highway is closed due to Red River Floodway operations. Access remains open from St. Mary’s Avenue (PR 200).
  • Nopiming Provincial Park: PR 315 is open to Bird Lake and Tulabi Falls. PR 314 remains closed through the park. Bird Lake Boat Launch, Bird Lake and Beresford Lake campgrounds closed. Recreational Motor Boat traffic is prohibited from operating within 100 metres of shorelines on Beresford, Long Lake, Bird Lake, Booster Lake, Davidson, and Flanders Lakes.
  • Rainbow Beach Provincial Park – Full closure
  • Rivers Provincial Park – Partial closure of some campsites
  • St. Malo Provincial Park – Partial closure of some campsites
  • Turtle Mountain Provincial Park – Partial closure of some campsites
  • Watchorn Provincial Park – Partial closure of some campsites
  • Whiteshell Provincial Park – closure and an evacuation order for the northern Whiteshell from the Seven Sisters entrance at the north end of the park along Provincial Road (PR) 307 eastward to the junction of PR 307 and PR 309. Additionally, all backcountry campsites are closed in Whiteshell Provincial Park. Closure of some boat launches in other areas, Crescent Beach at West Hawk Lake is closed. Big Whiteshell campground nightly campsites closed.

Summer Family Fishing Weekend

What: Anglers may fish without a licence throughout the province and keep up to a conservation licence limit of fish. Regular limits apply for anyone who already has a regular angling licence.
