Finger weaving and knotting have been a part of Indigenous culture for thousands of years. During the Fur Trade, this crafting method was used by the Métis to make sashes that served as a useful and multipurpose tool. These sashes became tailored to specific patterns and colours representative of different families before became a standardized symbol of Métis pride during the 1885 Northwest Resistance. The Métis sash is now a cultural item representing pride in lineage and tradition. Details
