Events Description
On the Edge is a celebration of the passion, talent, and commitment that propel the rising stars in the Anna McCowan-Johnson Aspirant Program towards exciting careers on stage. These captivating performances thrillingly weave together classical compositions and cutting-edge contemporary pieces, including some world premieres by guest choreographers and up-and-coming creators within the program, to showcase the versatility and profound artistry of the next generation of dancers.
The 2025 performance will include excerpts from the enchanting comic ballet, Coppélia, a light-hearted tale of mistaken identity and true love. On the Edge will also feature a brand-new flamenco creation from RWB School Artistic Faculty Maritel Centurion, and new dynamic new works from RWB Company dancers Emilie Lewis and Maggie Weatherdon and alumnus Yosuke Mino. Ballet Austin Company Member Sahel Flora Pascual will create a piece commissioned through Pathways to Performance, a program in partnership with Memoirs of Blacks in Ballet designed to engage Black choreographers in a meaningful way with dance companies. Up-and-coming choreographer from the Anna McCowan-Johnson Aspirant Program, Grace Frazer-Sneddon, will premiere a group piece exploring the monotony of routine and the confinement of expectations.
