Events Description
This triumphant trio of ballets runs the spectrum of creative expression, featuring the return of James Kudelka’s masterpiece The Four Seasons, the Winnipeg debut of Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe’s šɛgatəm and the world premiere of Dwight Rhoden’s Odyssey.
Overview
A jubilant celebration of the RWB’s past, present and future.
The Four Seasons is an emotional and deeply human story of youth, discovery, and the journey of life. It follows Everyman through the innocence of spring, the passion of summer, the calmness of autumn and finally the chilling death of winter, each personified as a powerful female lead. Nuanced, varied, and visually stunning, it is a true treat for fans of classical ballet. We’re also excited to welcome four beloved alumni back to the RWB stage to perform in The Four Seasons: Evelyn Hart, Alexander (Sasha) Gamayunov, CindyMarie Small, and Dmitri Dovgoselets.
šɛgatəm(pronounced shAY-ga-tum) speaks to the resilience and drive of the Tla’amin Nation while highlighting the quiet strength of knowing when to ask for help. Choreographer Cameron sinkʷə Fraser-Monroe drew on traditional, contemporary, and ballet influences to share the story of a leader facing burn out who must learn the hard way to lean on his community.
As a trailblazer in contemporary ballet, Dwight Rhoden brings his signature innovation and dynamic storytelling to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet with a highly anticipated world premiere of Odyssey. Known for his groundbreaking work and celebrated as one of the most sought-after contemporary choreographers, Rhoden’s work pushes boundaries, blending classical technique with modern athleticism and emotional depth.
šɛgatəm was co-commissioned in partnership between Bard College Center for Indigenous Studies and New York City Center for the 2024 Fall for Dance Festival.
